Midwife Difference

“Midwives value a women’s intuitive knowledge of herself and her unborn child; a necessary tool for a safe journey through birth and beyond.” ~Lorraine Ferrante

When you hire a midwife to be present at the most profound and life altering event you will experience in your life, you will be magically transformed into a loving and trusting atmosphere of seasoned, caring and professional midwives. The difference we offer at our birthing center from routine medical care with a hospital-based OB/GYN will amaze you.

Our relationship with you becomes personalized and confidence grows from our time together, building a mutual, trusting bond. We provide evidenced based care in a relaxed atmosphere and our goal is to facilitate a safe, natural and joyous birthing experience.

At Conscious Choices we believe in continuity of care, this means you have a midwife who will be there for you throughout your pregnancy and birth. You will know exactly who will be at your birth and have the opportunity to get to know her in a relaxing environment. There is time for you to relax, have a cup of tea and ask any questions you may have.

We believe that Midwives help women have healthier, happier pregnancies, births and beyond!!

The midwifery model of care is quite different than the obstetrical model of care during pregnancy and the birth of your child.  Birth centers provide many benefits  beyond a safer birth.

The midwifery model of care includes:

  • Empowering the birthing family to make informed choices.
  • Offering options.
  • Longer appointment times allowing for relationship building, emotional support as well as mutual trust during this special time.
  • A calm, quiet space in a cozy, home-like environment.
  • Herbal alternatives.
  • 24/7 access to your midwife.
  • We support water births and full range of movement during labor and birth. We encourage staying well nourished and hydrated during labor.
  • Mothers and babies are kept together all the time.
  • Complete postpartum care in the comforts of your home.
  • Belief that birth is a natural bodily process that works best when there’s no interference.

A 2014 study that examines nearly 17,000 courses of midwife-led care confirms that among low-risk women, home births/birth center births  result in low rates of interventions without an increase in adverse outcomes for babies and mothers alike.

The Cochrane Pregnancy and Childbirth Group states, “Most women should be offered midwife-led models of care and women (of low risk) should be encouraged to ask for this option.”
