You do have options and you do have choices! Birth centers in Arizona can attend vaginal births after one previous cesarean under certain conditions. The first appointment with us is free so we can discuss your previous birth history and determine together if a vbac is a good option for you! Cesareans carry risks, make sure yours is a necessary one.

Vaginal birth after a cesarean birth is possible and even recommended in many cases. Lowering the cesarean section rate in America has been an important topic amongst obstetricians and midwives; cesarean births have a more difficult recovery time with an increased difficulty in bonding and breastfeeding after. A cesarean is also a major abdominal surgery which carries with it more risk than a vaginal birth. It is for these reasons that many medical professionals aim to lower the cesarean rate. Recent studies by the National Institutes of Health and the Prima Medical Foundation have shown that midwifery care decreased the cesarean rate for first-time mothers with a single fetus in the optimal head-down (also called vertex) position from 32.2% to 25%. The same study also found that midwifery care increased the rate of successful VBACS from 13% to 22%. Essentially, this is showing that the midwifery model of care lowers the cesarean rate for low-risk women and increased the success of VBACs for women – this is awesome!
